Location
The Children of Promise camp is located on approximately 1000 acres of hill country 26 miles outside of Folsom, New Mexico in an area called Long Canyon. This is originally The Brown Family Homestead and Cattle Ranch. The land has been passed down from generation to generation since the early 1800’s and still operates as a working cattle ranch. The 5 generations of Brown’s have graciously shared their land over the years with many orphaned and disadvantaged adults and families in need.
Getting There: It’s a rugged 3.5 hour drive from Colorado Springs CO and Amarillo, TX. As the pavement turns into rocky dirt roads, the beauty of nature is all around you. The deep canyons, vast grazing pastures, and lush Sangre de Cristo Mountains give way to high and vast rolling plains. Dusty grasslands stretch to infinity and beyond – or at least to Texas. Cattle and dinosaur prints dot a landscape punctuated by volcanic cones. Ranching is an economic mainstay, and on many stretches of road you’ll see more cattle than cars – and quite possibly herds of bison too.
